Riders prepare to be judged on their skills
The 2013 riding season has been well underway thanks to our dedicated volunteers. Riders in our Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night lessons have been progressing toward showing their skills at our annual Show Off event and both new and returning horses have been added to this year’s lessons.
Our new horse is ‘Alby’. A 13h Arabian on loan to PETS, Alby successful completed screening and training/evaluation rides to become a program horse this season. His size has made him a quick favorite of both riders and volunteers.
Doc is back after taking some time off last season. His tall build is carrying some of our more independent riders. We are glad to have him back with us and look forward to future years with him.
The PETS Annual Show Off Event is scheduled for Saturday, August 24. The event will take place at the Equestrian Center’s covered arena and begin at 9:00 a.m. Riders and volunteers will receive specific information for their arrival times and preparation work.
The Show Off is a season ending presentation of each rider’s learned skills and abilities on horseback. The show is judged by actual horse show judges and people with show/horse experience. Four events make up the day’s program:
Riders are group by instructors and will show what they have worked on throughout the season as they take their horse through each of the events. Judges will score the riders on ability and horsemanship and award points based on performance.
The Show Off will also host the 2nd Annual PETS ‘Horse of the Year’ event. This is a fun contest that allows riders, volunteers, family members and friends of PETS to cast a vote for the horse they think best served the program during the current riding season. Veteran horse Herbie won the first award and his fans hope he can capture the title once again. Voting this year will begin on Sunday August 11th and end on Friday August 23rd. You will be able to vote at the barn (each time you visit/volunteer) and on our Facebook page.
